Planning a Trip with Your Pet? We Can Help with Health Certificates!

Are you preparing to travel with your furry family member? Whether you're taking a road trip across state lines or jet-setting overseas, it's important to make sure your pet has the proper documentation to travel safely and legally.

At Terra Linda Veterinary Hospital, we’re pleased to offer USDA-compliant health certificates for both domestic and international travel for dogs and cats. These certificates—also known as Certificates of Veterinary Inspection (CVIs)—are often required by airlines, border agencies, and even some hotels or pet transport services.

Traveling with your pet can be expensive. Travel certificates within the continental US are $150. Travel certificates to Mexico and Hawaii range from $200-$300. International travel certificates can range from $550 to $950 depending on where your pet is traveling. These costs do not include the examinations and treatments that are necessary to meet the requirements of your destination state or country. It is important you carefully consider these factors when deciding to travel with your pet.

Domestic Travel

For travel within the United States, most states and airlines require a health certificate issued within 10 days of departure. We’ll examine your pet to ensure they’re healthy enough for travel and up to date on all required vaccines.

International Travel

International travel is more complex and may involve:

  • Government forms and timelines
  • Country-specific vaccine or microchip requirements
  • Parasite treatments
  • Quarantine regulations

We are accredited and experienced in preparing international health certificates and can guide you through the entire process. Advance planning is key—some destinations require months of preparation, so please reach out as early as possible.

What You’ll Need:

  • Your travel dates and destination
  • Information about your mode of travel (plane, car, etc.)
  • Your pet’s vaccine history and microchip information (if applicable)
